The great balloon race is one of the local events that’s part of the Kentucky Derby Festival leading up to the first Saturday in May. We decided to go this year and check it out.

The event landing page could stand to have a bit more information (not to mention a map) for spectators and parking. We put “Bowman field” into our phone’s GPS and headed out.

We ended up at a gated parking lot across the field from where the balloons were actually taking off.

I’d love any local tips on where we should park in the future. Based on what the roads looked like, it seems like we should have been where the red lines indicated traffic, on Pee Wee Reese Road, instead of Dutchmans Lane.
